"Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we’re scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.” ―First Lady Michelle Obama
You don't have to make yourself miserable to be successful whether it's in your personal life or in your work place. We often take on too much work or projects then we can bare. As we know, we are living in a world digitally driven and it's very important that we find ways to maintain our sanity and health when we sometimes feel that the 24 hours that are gifted to us aren't enough.
As women in business, we have so many expectations to fulfill in all areas in our life. When it's not the "mommy" tasks it's the "wifely" duties. In the old days, housewives were just housewives. The place of a woman was at home and it is still the case in some households at the present time due to the mentality of some men.
Today, more women see themselves more than just as mothers or housewives. They want to rule the world, be executives, be financially independent, have their own business, be fulfilled physically and have that social acceptance that so many of us are craving for.
Don’t confuse having a career with having a life.” ―Hillary Clinton
Success is about working smarter and not working harder. It's about knowing when to put yourself first and taking that well deserved and needed time to reboot so you can be in the long run a better mother to your children, a better spouse, a better friend and a better BOSS.
There's multiple ways to achieve and maintain a work/life balance and I have chosen 5 that I believe can help you.
Meditation is a way to relax the mind, body and soul. One of the best way to meditate is through practicing yoga. It has help so many of us to become more focused, attentive and have a peaceful mind.
2- Healthy eating
You may wonder what food have to do with maintaining a work/life balance. What we decide to feed our body will reflect on our day to day life. By eating the right foods, our body will not only look good but it will feel good and you'll have more energy to go on throughout your day.
3- Make time for yourself
We need to learn how to prioritize our time for what matter the most which means putting ourselves on the top of the list because if you're out of touch with yourself, you'll be out of touch with friends and family. To be able to help others, you must help yourself first. A 20 minutes nap can do wonders or take a 15 minutes’ walk on your lunch break can help you be more focused. Another great suggestion would be to disconnect from everything social media just for 1 hour each day and take that moment for a "Me" time.
4- Learn how to say No!
We all live busy and hectic lives trying to do everything at once while we are so caught up to do whatever it takes to have the bigger and better materialistic things then our neighbors, friends or co-workers. We have that feeling that, if we say no whether it's work related, to a family member or to a friend, the world will somehow stop and we'll be responsible. Saying no gives you back the control that you have given to others without even realizing it.
5- Know how to delegate
As women, we think that we have super powers and we're all superwoman but that's not the case. Nobody is perfect and we need to understand that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but it shows a sign of strength and humility.
